Generic Lamisil is used to treat certain types of fungal infections (e.g., fingernail or toenail). It works by stopping the growth of fungus. This medication belongs to a class of drugs known as antifungals.

What is Generic Lamisil and what is is used for

Generic Lamisil is an antifungal medication that fights infections caused by fungus.

Generic Lamisil tablets are used to treat infections caused by fungus that affect the fingernails or toenails.

How to take Generic Lamisil?

Take Generic Lamisil exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Follow all directions on your prescription label.

Do not take this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.

You may take the tablet with or without food.

Generic Lamisil is usually taken for 6 weeks to treat scalp or fingernail infections, and for 12 weeks to treat a toenail infection.

Use this medicine for the full prescribed length of time. Your symptoms may improve before the infection is completely cleared. Skipping doses may also increase your risk of further infection that is resistant to antifungal medicine. Terbinafine will not treat a viral infection such as the flu or a common cold.

What happens if I miss a dose?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose.

Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.

What happens if I overdose?

In case of overdose seek immediate medical attention. Overdose symptoms may include headache, dizziness, vomiting, stomach pain, rash, and increased urination.

Generic Lamisil side effects

    Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction to Generic Lamisil:
  • (hives, difficult breathing, swelling in your face or throat) or a severe skin reaction
  • (fever, sore throat, burning in your eyes, skin pain, red or purple skin rash that spreads and causes blistering and peeling).
Seek medical treatment if you have a serious drug reaction that can affect many parts of your body.

Symptoms may include: skin rash, fever, swollen glands, flu-like symptoms, muscle aches, severe weakness, unusual bruising, or yellowing of your skin or eyes. This reaction may occur several weeks after you began using terbinafine.

Some people taking Lamisil have developed severe liver damage leading to liver transplant or death.
It is not clear whether terbinafine actually caused the liver damage in these patients.
In most cases, the patient had a serious medical condition before taking this medicine.

Warnings and Precautions

Before taking Generic Lamisil, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: immune system problems, kidney disease, liver disease, lupus.

Limit alcoholic beverages. Daily use of alcohol may increase your chance for serious side effects.

Generic Lamisil may make you more sensitive to the sun. Limit your time in the sun. Avoid tanning booths and sunlamps. Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing when outdoors. Tell your doctor right away if you get sunburned or have skin blisters/redness.

During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when clearly needed.
Fungal nail infection treatment can usually wait until after you have had your baby.
Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

This medication passes into breast milk and may have undesirable effects on a nursing infant.
Therefore, breast-feeding is not recommended while using this drug. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.


Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children. Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the packaging.
